|
Day 1: Tsodilo HillsYou depart from Maun on the Pioneer Camping Safari at 11am by light aircraft to Tsodilo Hills, where you will meet your guide and camp staff. The Hills are one of the more rewarding destinations in Botswana - renowned not so much for wildlife, but for the extensive collection of the San people (Bushman / Basarwa) rock art paintings. Some 3 500 paintings have been identified. After an afternoon visit to some of the more accessible paintings you relax around your campfire, and learn more about the area, and the people who left such a fascinating legacy. |
Day 2: Tsodilo HillsAfter an early breakfast you set out for a walk (and some climbing) on one of the designated Trails, for 3 or 4 hours. This will allow you to see some of the more inaccessible, and interesting paintings, whilst also allowing you to enjoy some breath taking scenery. You return to your campsite for a welcome Lunch. This afternoon you have a short visit to the local San village, before further investigation of the area. You return to your campsite for dinner. |
Day 3: Etosha National ParkAfter an early breakfast you leave for Etosha National Park. Etosha is a collection of 13 villages, some 250km (155.3 miles) North of Maun. Two tribes live and work in this area, the Hambukushu and Bayei. These tribes are the foremost basket weavers in Botswana, who utilise reeds, and natural dyes from the Delta. They also do a number of carvings, and there are still some traditional blacksmiths in the area. You will also have the opportunity to spend time with the local farmers, learning about their lifestyle, and farming techniques. |
Day 4: MaunFrom Etosha you travel via the now dry Lake Ngami (visited by such early explorers as David Livingstone and Charles John Andersson), to Maun. Your overnight is at Motsentsila Lodge, just outside of Maun. |
Days 5 & 6: Okavango DeltaFrom Maun you transfer by light aircraft into the heart of the Delta. Here you explore the crystal clear channels, islands and waterways by mokoro (traditional dug-out canoe) and undertake game viewing walks on the islands. Your 2 overnights are spent at your Afro Ventures campsite in a private concession area, with a complement of camp staff to cater for you. |
Days 7 & 8: Moremi Wildlife ReserveYou continue the Pioneer Camping Safari by light aircraft to Khwai, tucked into the north eastern sector of the Okavango. The Reserve was set-aside in 1963 by the Botswana tribe, and is rated as Africa's most beautiful wildlife sanctuary. Your days are spent on extensive game viewing drives. |
Days 9 - 11: Chobe National ParkYou travel up to Savute and spend a night camped next to the now dry Savute Channel. Depending on the time of year, huge animal concentrations are attracted to this area, and Savute is excellent for Lion and other predator viewing. From Savute you move up to northern Chobe and camp for 2 nights in the Serondela area. This is the heart of Elephant country and here you have an opportunity to spend many hours watching the huge herds in and around the waters of the Chobe River. Northern Chobe has beautiful scenery and magnificent sunsets, with a large variety of bird and animal life. |
Day 12: Victoria FallsIt's a short drive from Chobe National Park to Victoria Falls. Your stay here is always welcomed as a chance to wash off Botswana's dust, relax over a cold beer, and enjoy the varied entertainment and facilities at Victoria Falls. Your entrance fee to Victoria Falls is included in the safari fare. Your overnight accommodation is at The Kingdom Hotel, in twin bedded rooms with private facilities. |
Day 13After breakfast at the hotel, your Pioneer Camping Safari ends. |
